The test results are in....

This is not going to be a long post, but I wanted to let you know that the results of the tests on the bone are in.  The bone fragment is not Michaela's.  It has been identified as belonging to Kimberly Billy.  Kimberly is already known to be one of the victims of the Speed Freak Killers. Her remains were recovered from the well and have already been returned to her family -- just some of the bones were intermingled with Jo Ann Hobson's. The upside of all this is that there isn't some unsuspecting family learning this evening that their missing child has been found.  Kimberly was not a child, by the way. She was 19 years old when she disappeared in December 1984. She was still someone's little girl, of course. I'm just referring to the fact that the bone was said to belong to a child between the ages of 5 and 13, and it turns out it didn't.

I just got home from the police department, and it's going to take me awhile to sort through my feelings, I'm sure. I will write more about this at a later date. Right now they are a little mixed. Yes, there is a degree of disappointment that the answer as to what happened to Michaela have eluded us once again -- and also the feeling of frustration about the possibility of ever, ever having the answers. But the Hayward Police Department is working hard on the case, and they do believe that they will be able to get those answers.

The overriding feeling I experienced, though, was a sense of relief. I felt a weight lift as I sat in that room at the police department. Just a whisper of relief.

I will be back to post again once everything has settled in. Meanwhile, thanks for your support as always. And Michaela, if you are out there, PLEASE CONTACT ME!!!

I love you forever.

  1. Oh my gosh! That's great!
And to Kimberly's family, I'm very sorry for your loss. And even though it's not michaleas bone doesn't mean that it should make you feel like everyone's only happy that it's not michalea's. We feel for you. :)

Michaela is out there somewhere, I only hope she finds the courage and strength to come home. Your family is always in my prayers.

  8. Well, I am glad that it was not the end chapter of a possible future book about your past 24, 25? years of hell! I am glad they were able to specifically identify the bones. Wow is all I can really say about this continuing investigation. Close possibility, and still no cigar. I hope you feel better soon.
At least the answer is in!

  9. Your whisper of relief screams of hope. I don't know if you can even describe to anyone that has not been through it what it is like at the moment when your mind in frustration says "I didn't get my answer" and in that very second your 2nd thought that comes straight from your heart is "I didn't get my answer!" deep frustration and deep hope at the same time. I don't think there is a label, a medical term, an applicable theory that goes with that. To me it's nameless emotions and perhaps that's the way they should stay, nameless. When your answer comes then your emotions will have names but not right now, not this time. I'm here for you Sharon!

  12. Wow... :/ happy and not you know (for the other family). Where the heck are you michaela do you even know your missing??? Maybe your out there in suburbia with a family and husband and don't even know your missing. Maybe you do and because of some evil things that may have happened you choose to stay hidden. Either way happy that this is not her she's out there has to be!

  14. Ive just found your blog for the first time but i wanted to share with you something...I was 8 when your sweet daughter was taken from you. I'm from san jose, ca and I will never forget it. over the years I've prayed for your healing and for hers no matter what the outcome is. I'm a christian, and I believe that something , even the smallest thing, something good will come out of every terrifying situation. Michaela's story has caused a ripple effect of awareness. She taught me to be more cautious during my youth. She has taught me to be more aware as a parent, as i very well might never have been; if I didn't grow up hearing about your daughter, and amber. Her story could of saved my daughters lives 100 times over...Your daughter is a hero. You are a hero. Thoughts of you will stay with me and I have shared her story with my 3 daughters in hopes they will learn from this too. and we pray for your daughter wherever she is. And we pray for you. We pray for you to continue to help other parents. Im sure you have helped so many who are trying to cope with loss and only you, in your particular experience could be their source of wisdom. I am just one. imagine how many other lives you and michaela have touched over these years. Keep your story alive. God bless you both and all of the missing children. i hope you all find the answers you are searching for as different as they may be and I hope you all will continue to embrace whatever comes your way... May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

  15. Dear Sharon,
That is incredible. I just can't imagine that the result is that this little bone belong to a previously identified victim.
That had to be checked, but that's such an unexpected news.

I am happy if you can feel, even just for a little moment, a sense of relief.

That's certainely to avoid that kind of "news" that the FBI has taken over any further searches.

I really hope that one day, you will know.

    regards

  16. Thank you Sharon! This news brought tears to my eyes. It feels like the world is just a little bit more as it should be.

If I'm feeling mixed emotions, I can only imagine the intensity and confusion of what you're feeling. When your ready, let us know what's next and what we can do to help.

  17. I'm both happy for you that it wasn't Michaela, and sharing your frustration that you still don't have definite answers about where Michaela is. I am hoping and praying that you will not have to wait much longer to find out where Michaela is. We are all here for you - aching with you and praying for you.

And Michaela, if you do see this...please, please, please contact your mother. There is NOTHING that ever could have happened to you that would EVER compromise her love for you. Please give her the answers she so desperately needs, if you're able.

    2. Sharon, I hope that after all the stress of this bone experience you can take a recuperation break of some kind. If I were you (which I'm not so I'm not giving advice) I'd probably need a break from searching and wondering, until I could gather my strength and think clearly again. I hope you can get whatever you need to get through this.

  20. Sharon, since I was 14 you and your daughter have never been far from my mind and heart. I so hope hope and pray you get the miracle with Michaela that you are looking for. Jaycee being reunited with her family proved that anything is possible. Whatever the future holds you are a strong, amazing, loving mother.

  21. Wow that is wonderful news! I have felt from the start, for some reason, that it would not be Michaela.

  22. Sharon, The San Francisco Chronicle posted that the outcome of the bone has put an end to Herzog and Shermantine being linked to Michaela's disappearance. Is this true?

    ReplyDelete

    1. No, that's not true at all. Having dealt with reporters for all these years, I think they have good intentions but you just can't believe everything they say.

  23. Did Shermantine admit Herzog took her and then later recant?

  24. Not just Jaycee but Tanya Nicole kach as well both missing and both living with someone else against their wills.

  25. I have to say I am elated that this is not Michaelas bone. However I'm sad that someone else has lost their daughter. I feel like Michaelas out there somewhere. Many prayers and love to you and your family,Sharon.

  26. Well I'm back to thinking of the connection to Jaycee. Even though he has been ruled out Trina, Karina, Katrina whatever her name Is, Is the one who notice that It could be him. I just hope Garrido tells where she could be found alive and hope those 2 or three monsters where not Involved. Oh P.s "the third speed freak killer" sued someone for mentioning his name.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Trina thinks Herzog looks just like the kidnapper.

      Delete
    2. Even the composite bears a resemblance to Herzog, but I didn't know that Trina, who saw the kidnapper, thought so. Thankfully the FBI is involved in the excavations and more information will come soon. It must be hard to know what to do right now. I get the feeling that you still think there's a strong possibility that Herzog is the kidnapper. Is that true?

      Cindy

      Delete
    3. I think there is a possibility it may still be Herzog. It was not this bone that made him a suspect, so having it ruled out as not being Michaela's doesn't eliminate him as a suspect. They do have some other significant information that points to him.

However, as I've said all along, there is significant information that points to other suspects as well. This is the frustrating thing. We just need to find some solid evidence implicating one of the suspects in the case. Well, no, for me it isn't even that. We need to find Michaela, whether she is alive or whether she isn't. That is what I am looking for. My daughter. Finding the person responsible is only the avenue to that.

      Delete
    4. Absolutely. Finding Michaela is the objective. Stay strong, Sharon. Hopefully Shermantine will reveal his reasons for thinking Herzog might have been the kidnapper and that information will shed more light on whether he was or was not the kidnapper.

    5. my hopes went back down when still thinking Michaela a potential victim of Phillip Garrido. The remains of the other 28 unidentified bone fragments will remain with the Hayward Police Department as they continue to work to identify them. http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2013/01/09/dna-results-of-commingled-remains-of-speed-freak-killers-victims-released/

  27. What a horrible rollercoaster...I am so sorry that you are going through this unspeakable stress. I, personally, still can't get past the resemblance to the composite and the nature of the way she was taken, unfortunately. I hope the FBI continues to work on this case so any families that have been affected will have closure.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I wonder how many other times something like this has been goofed up? Like they said it was a child's bone but it was really an adults you know. It's too bad you can't go to the UAE you know just to check things out walk around and such.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't even imagine the mixture of emotions going through your head right now Sharon. Keep staying strong for Michaela and keep faith that one day you will get the answers you deserve and the uncertainty lifted. I can only pray that you get these answers soon.

  30. Sorry, but I have to say that going to the UAE to walk around doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Having a PI go to the UAE with some specific information and places to look might be a good idea, but as far as I know, no such specific info exists, or am I wrong?

    1. You are absolutely right, Cindy. Wandering aimlessly around any part of the world looking for someone who might look like Michaela is a pretty fruitless method of searching, particularly since we don't know what she looks like. Jaycee sure doesn't look like her pictures from when she was a child, and she doesn't look like her composite either.

  37. Sharon, once again you are in that place.....waiting, wondering, hoping, searching and most of all needing to know...needing closer. It has been four years that I have come here and checked at least weekly to see what is happening. I pray all the time for you and Michaela. I remember her as I would myself at that age. I think of where I was in my life on the same day, at the same time. Why, I don't know. I was 23 when she was taken, and unaware of the kidnapping. I'm 48 today and the mother of three, including a 14 year old daughter. You and her are in my heart and thoughts always.

I have to say my only thought with Herzog is this....his eyes. I can't let go of photos of him verses the drawing Katrina gave....those eyes are striking.
